Oberon was founded in 1994 by Bard Oberon as a vehicle for his lifelong studies and interests in the forces that move civilization, hermeticism and rosicrucianism, gnostic spirituality and natural magic.
Some of his influences are (in no particular order):
60s rock and pop (Jean Ferrat, Scott Walker, Ennio Morricone, Love etc), Klaus Schulze, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, Symbolist art, The Smashing Pumpkins, 80s Thrash metal, Neo Folk/Alternative, Folklore, Norse sagas, Hacker and cyber punk culture, Martial Arts, Cartoons (Spartacus and the Sun Beneath the Sea, Transformers, Masters of the Universe etc), Western esotericism, Sufism, Rosicrucianism, Gnosticism, David Lynch and occult cinema, Carl Jung, Henry Corbin, Anagarika Govinda, Ayn Rand, G.I. Gurdjieff, J.G. Bennett and much much more...
“When you’ve been doing this for many years, influences stop being specific, they form a greater, more ambiguous and diffuse backdrop to the creative impulse. The ABC becomes a language, which gives us freedom to flow.”
In 2014 Oberon released his first album on Prophecy Productions in the new millennium, Dream Awakening, which garnered some very positive reviews in the European underground press.
In 2016 he was joined by Jan Petter Skretting (formerly of Myriads/Mörkemen), James F. (James F. Band, Artifact, Sons of Zero) and Tory J. Raugstad (James F. Band, Sons of Zero), which added new creative energies to Oberon, resulting in an intense period of rehearsals and songwriting, which would eventually become Aeon Chaser where songs like Lost Souls, Omega, Walk In Twilight and The Secret Fire ads a heavier, band oriented feel to Oberon’s rich musical palette.
The symbol of Oberon is the crescent moon, signifying something hidden coming into view, this can be seen as the emerging consciousness of Man.
Oberon is also identified by the alchemical dragon, signifying the process of transmutation and the search for the hidden fire, the philosopher’s stone of being.
